Birding at Brightwater Blog

The Secrets of Powerful Writing

Tuesdays, Oct. 1-22 (4 sessions)
North Seattle College online, 6:30-8 p.m., $135

Good writing doesn’t have to be hard–not if you know the secrets! Whatever you write, personal or professional, you’ll benefit from being able to express yourself clearly and directly. In this hands-on class you’ll learn to clarify your message, communicate complex information, avoid common mistakes, edit and proofread your writing, use proper grammar and punctuation, communicate on social and electronic media, and more.

Writing Short Memoir

Wednesdays, Nov. 6-20 (3 sessions)
North Seattle College online, 6:30-8:30 p.m., $135

Turn your life experiences—dramatic and everyday—into powerful short memoir. If you’ve wanted to write about your life but don’t have time now to tackle a book project, this class is for you! Tell the story of your life in bite-sized chunks. This class will lead you step-by-step through writing a short memoir piece: from selecting and reflecting on your experience, to writing and publishing your story. By the end of the class, you’ll have a short memoir piece ready to publish.

Write Night online: Join us!

Write Night meets online via Zoom on Thursday from 6:15-7:45 pm. Each class includes a social time, as well as a chance to share your manuscript (up to 1,000 words) and get feedback from the group.

About Chris

Christine DuboisChristine Dubois is an award-winning writer and editor who has published more than 450 articles in 45 different magazines and newspapers. She teaches writing at North Seattle College as well as for local businesses. Her warmth, knowledge, and enthusiasm make her a popular instructor.

Dubois has successfully tackled writing projects of all types, including articles, websites, ad copy, resumes, appeal letters, advertising copy, press releases, brochures, curriculum, scripts, reports, book editing, publicity campaigns, and more.

Her professional experience includes: 10 years as Communications Director for The South 47 Farm, senior editor for View Publishing at Group Health Cooperative, assignment editor at KING-TV News, and more than 20 years as a freelance writer.

She is co-author, together with her husband, Steven E. Bourne, of “Waiting in Hope: Meditations for Expectant Parents.”

Dubois has a degree in Communications from the University of Washington and graduate-level certificates in Advanced Online Teaching and Teaching Adults. She has received numerous awards from professional communications groups for excellence in writing, editing, and photography. She is a member of the National Writer’s Union.
